CHSR faculty member and child psychologist Dr. Zack Adams gave an interview to local Indianapolis news station WRTV6 The Indy Channel, discussing the surprising prevalence of suicidal thoughts and attempts among children and young teens. The story comes after two youths, one only 11 years old, attempted suicide in Indianapolis over the same weekend. Dr. Adams emphasized the importance of open communication between parents and kids about depression and suicide, making sure the young person knows he or she has someone safe to talk to, and knowing the warning signs that someone may be contemplating ending his or her life.
