Pediatric Sub-specialty Training

The Department of Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine offers fellowship programs across the range of American Board of Pediatrics subspecialties. Each program is designed to help pediatricians develop academic leadership roles in their respective field, in clinical, teaching, and research skills. Our faculty is dedicated to providing a stimulating and complete training program with focus on the individual. We pride ourselves on excellent clinical breadth and volume, a strong record of inquiry and scholarship, as well as, our high faculty to fellow ratio and collegial atmosphere.

Clinical Training

Fellows receive training and mentorship from our faculty at IUSM at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children and IU Health affiliated hospitals. Riley Hospital is the only comprehensive care pediatric hospital in Indiana. With a statewide referral base and high clinical volume, it is ranked as one of America's Best Hospitals. Riley Hospital also home to one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive outpatient care facilities and receives over 1,700 air and ground transports annually.


The Department of Pediatrics at IUSM is a national leader in research and home of the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research. The IUSM Pediatric Department is consistently ranked in the top 5-10% nationally for NIH research funding.

Special Opportunities

The department of pediatrics and the Indiana University School of Medicine campus provides rich opportunities in skill development in basic science, clinical science, health services research, quality improvement and implementation science, public health and community advocacy, global health, and medical education.   Departmental fellowship seminars promote cross-specialty education and peer networking.  Personalized Scholarship Oversight Committees at IUSM help fellows capitalize on their own professional development with supportive mentorship from the broad range of faculty available on our diverse academic campus.  The Morris Green Physician Scientist Program is a departmental research development program for residents and fellows whose career goals are focused on an emphasis in future academic research.
