Cardiology Fellowship

Research

Our fellows have many opportunities to develop their research skill in basic, translational and clinical arenas. A pediatric protocol development committee has been developed to help early investigators as well as clinical research support to prepare IRB submissions. Statistical support is provided by the statistics department on the IUPUI campus. Our fellows consistently present their research at regional and national conferences.

The Wells Center for Pediatric Research is a large basic and translational science facility that provides vast opportunities for fellows directing their careers toward the basic sciences. Some fellows have also expanded their clinical skills by assisting researchers with animal imaging.

An interactive lecture series has been developed to allow interaction between the clinical fellows and the basic science faculty to expand their knowledge of how these studies affect their clinical training. It also provides a window into possible collaborations depending on the fellow’s level of interest.

Fellows have opportunities to participate in clinical research with cardiology faculty and faculty outside of the division. Riley Hospital is a participant in the NIH funded Pediatric Heart Network which provides opportunities for fellows to submit for research grants and participate in multicenter clinical trials.

A Masters of Clinical Science program has been completed by cardiology fellows during their training. This program includes formal educational lectures in addition to related research and may be pursued based upon fellow qualifications.
