D. Wade Clapp MD

Professor of Pediatrics
James W. Riley Hospital for Children

M.D., Indiana University School of Medicine, 1982
Internship and Residency, Indiana University School of Medicine, 1982 - 1986
Fellowship, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, 1986 – 1990

Dr. Clapp’s laboratory is interested in understanding the molecular pathogenesis of genetic diseases that affect the hematopoietic system. They utilize blood cells from genetically engineered mice as model systems to understand the biochemical and cellular functions of the respective genes of interest. They then utilize the information learned from studying blood cells as an approach to evaluate the pathogenesis of other affected organ systems. Current studies are focused on: (1) Fanconi Anemia, a heterogeneous genetic disorder characterized by bone marrow failure, cancer and congenital malformations; (2) neurofibromatosis type 1, a common genetic disorder resulting in a range of malignant and nonmalignant manifestations including bone dysplasias, myeloid leukemia, solid tumors, and learning deficits. Dr. Clapp is also the Director of the Combined MD/PhD Degree Program at Indiana University.
