The Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infectious Disease

Infectious DiseaseThe Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infectious Disease is located in Riley Children's Hospital in downtown Indianapolis. The Center provides inpatient care for more than 900 patients by providing either primary infectious disease care or acting as consultants to the 31 pediatric and surgical subspecialty service areas at Riley.

We also act as advocates for children's health issues, including community educational programs, collaborative efforts in support of vaccine usage, treatment guidelines for infectious illnesses and support for state and regional legislative groups for improving screening and preventative care for Indiana's children.

Populations Served

The Center serves patients from throughout the state of Indiana, surrounding states and 25 countries. In 2009, patients were referred by more that 160 primary and specialty physicians. Our faculty also evaluates children with infectious diseases at IU Health Methodist, Wishard and IU Health University Hospitals as well as IU Health North Medical Center and provides comprehensive outpatient care in the Riley Outpatient Center. The Clinic participates in the Indiana Medical Access and Communication Systems (IMACS) network, a phone network that provides diagnostic and therapeutic support to physicians throughout Indiana and adjacent states.

Infectious DiseaseFaculty

The Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infections Disease is staffed by 7 Indiana University School of Medicine faculty, a clinical nurse specialist, a medical assistant, an administrative specialist and an executive secretary. Our faculty is responsible for educating medical students in one of the largest medical schools in the country. In addition, the faculty trains categorical and combined pediatric residents, in a large academic program, on all aspects of the care of children with infectious diseases.
