Indiana University School of Medicine

Visiting Students

One excellent way to learn more about Pediatrics at Indiana University is to spend time with us as a visiting student during a Senior elective. We offer electives in most Pediatric specialties, general pediatrics, ED, critical care, and ambulatory rotations. Additional experiences in research, rural medicine, and other special electives can be arranged. If you are applying to a combined residency, please contact us about potential options for combined Med-Peds, EM-Peds, or Child Psychiatry-Pediatrics experiences. Please contact us early if possible to allow best selection of electives, and to allow time for processing and approval with your school.

Students should be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school, and students in non-U.S. medical schools may need additional time and approvals to navigate the necessary details. We will be happy to assist you to coordinate this between your home institution, the Pediatrics Clerkship, and the Indiana University School of Medicine.

For initial inquiries, please contact our Coordinator, Sara Vitaniemi or for information about specific electives or special options, contact Dr. Mitch Harris, Director of Pediatric Medical Student Education. Both can be reached at 1-800-336-9129. After initial contact, we will work to coordinate necessary details (applications, approval, etc) through John Keller in the Office of Medical Student Acadmic Affairs (317)274-2264.

We are pleased to welcome visiting students to IU. We are also happy to assist you with your housing search, orientation, and any other aspect to make your time in Indiana a great experience.
