Curriculum

The Morris Green Scholars Program individually tailors each Scholar’s residency or fellowship to maximize his/her research experience by matching up trainees with successful mentors and by , providing funding, and a multi-faceted curriculum focused on developing a pediatric physician scientists. It provides extensive interactions with mentors, Executive Committee members and Visiting Scientists. In addition, the curriculum includes monthly meetings, an annual retreat, hosting 1-2 visiting professors each year, and hosting a pediatric research symposium.

The residency program is tailored to provide mentorship from the first year to guide academic career development. The Morris Green Scholars Program allows restructuring of residency, if desired, to allow protected research time and ABP pathways. It provides a $3000 per year stipend to support additional travel to scientific meetings and books.

For fellows, the Morris Green Scholars Program offers not only addition mentorship and career development opportunities but supplemental salary support during the fellowship period dedicated to research.

Monthly meetings. Once a month, Scholars meet with co-Directors and select mentors and MGS Executive Committee members to discuss various topics of interest. Topics include: protected time for research as a clinician scientist, making yourself a strong fellowship/faculty candidate, and funding opportunities in residency, fellowship and beyond. In addition, Scholars will have the opportunity to present their work in progress while getting feedback on their scientific question, methods, results, and presentation style.

Annual retreat. Every year there is a 1-day retreat focusing on career development. Senior Scholars have the opportunity to share their work. Break-out sessions for residents and fellow Scholars are available throughout the day. An external advisor also reviews the program with the Scholars to continually improve the program. The retreat is also a time for fun and networking with Scholars and mentors.

Visiting Scientists. Each year the Scholars choose and invite 1-2 nationally renowned scientists to visit. The Visiting Scientists meet with each scholar to give input on his/her research and career plans as well as convene group discussions on topics of interest.

Department of Pediatrics Scholars Day. Scholars Day is a research symposium for trainee researchers in the Department of Pediatrics. The Scholars host as well as present their research at this event.
