Pediatric Community Outreach Mobile Education (PCOME)

Program Overview and Goals

The Pediatric Community Outreach Mobile Education (PCOME) goals are to provide onsite training and expertise to community hospital healthcare providers in Indiana for the initial stabilization and management of pediatric patients. This program focuses on pediatric care in commonly seen pediatric illnesses and low volume high acuity illness.

Background

The training is geared toward multidisciplinary teams in their own environment. The team focuses on the use of simulation for education. The use of high fidelity mannequins allows teams to refine and refresh skills in a realistic way with no risk to patients.

Day of the Program

The team consists of Pediatric Intensivists, Pediatric Critical Care RNs, and Pediatric Respiratory Therapists. The PCOME team brings equipment used to conduct simulations to your facility. Several scenarios will be run by the PCOME team in your facility to enhance learning. The PCOME team will also include skills stations that can be tailored to the learners’ needs. Particular emphasis is placed on technical skills, communication in a crisis situation, utilization of available resources, and stabilization and management of critically ill pediatric patient.
