Subspecialty Rotations

Residents on rotationOur hospitals serve as the major source of subspecialty pediatric care in the state of Indiana. A full range of pediatric subspecialty services is provided by nationally recognized board certified subspecialists, readily available for patient care and resident teaching. While each service varies slightly, residents typically participate in a mixture of inpatient and consultation services as part of scheduled subspecialty rotations; ambulatory care is integrated within some of the services, as well.

These include:

  • adolescent health
  • cardiology
  • endocrinology/diabetes/metabolism
  • gastroenterology
  • hematology/oncology
  • infectious disease
  • nephrology
  • pulmonology
  • rheumatology and
  • developmental pediatrics

Residents rounding with Dr. SchambergerWhile we offer fellowships in many subspecialty fields, the fellows perform as additions to the teaching staff and supplement the learning experiences of our residents and students.

Also, faculty in other subspecialties are directly involved in resident education, such as:

  • pediatric surgeons
  • orthopedists
  • ophthalmologists
  • anesthesiologists
  • psychiatrists and
  • radiologists

Elective and research rotations are available in a wide variety of subspecialties for residents who desire further experience. We also benefit from working with pediatric pharmacists, social workers, physical therapists, and others who have specialized in pediatric fields.
