A National Leader
The Section of General and Community Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is dedicated to academic excellence and leadership in general pediatric healthcare through outstanding patient service, comprehensive training of medical students, residents and faculty, innovative research and family-centered advocacy for our patients and their communities.
Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art primary care services for the children of Indiana in an academic setting. Our team of over 120 dedicated physicians offers comprehensive pediatric care in both outpatient and inpatient settings throughout the state of Indiana. Our faculty serves in a mix of metropolitan, suburban/semi-rural and under-served settings.
Our excellence in clinical pediatrics is demonstrated by faculty participation in NCQA-certified medical homes, participation in statewide medical home learning collaboratives, bilingual community health centers, a diagnostic clinic and a nationally recognized transition support program for children with special needs.
General and Community Peds provides training for the next generation of pediatricians, primary care providers and their roles as community health leaders across the spectrum of primary care pediatric settings as well as future pediatric subspecialists. Through education, we impact the practice of pediatrics throughout Indiana. Over seventy percent of pediatricians in the state of Indiana have received training at IUSM. Pediatric outpatient clerkships, resident continuity clinics, urgent care centers and inpatient family-centered teams are primary teaching sites. Our education mission includes providing health care professionals with the latest information and tools to maintain excellence in their field and it extends to providing family and patient education and support.
