Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to General and Community Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). Our faculty focuses on improving the health of Indiana’s children by providing state of the art care, educating new pediatricians and community leaders, and providing ongoing education for Indiana’s primary care physicians. Our Section also includes a research arm, Children’s Health Services Research, which is one of the largest and most active pediatric divisions of its kind in the country.

We have a diverse group of more than 100 faculty members who are passionate about providing the best possible care for both outpatient and inpatient services in 5 hospitals and over 30 clinics in the Indianapolis area. Our practices encompass community health centers, where we care for underserved inner-city youth and refugee children, suburban practices, large specialty hospitals and community hospitals.

Our team is also highly committed to clinical research to improve treatment outcomes to gain a better understanding of the factors influencing the development of childhood diseases. We have been nationally recognized for our programs working with Community Based Organizations and school systems, and for our participation in state and national child advocacy. We are a leader in the development of a medical home collaborative, education of residents in community pediatrics and the development of a program that helps youth with special heath care needs transition into independence and adulthood. As a measure of our preeminence, two of our General and Community Pediatrics faculty have served as President of the Indiana AAP Chapter in the last 5 years.

Our faculty members are dedicated to providing education for medical students, residents, faculty and statewide health care providers. Community and General Pediatrics is a favorite of medical students and each year our faculty receives IU Trustee Teaching Awards. Pediatric clerkships routinely choose our primary care settings as their best educational experience.

The General and Community Pediatrics Section is a group of professionals who love their work and take pride in their role of providing excellent care to the children of Indiana. Thank you for visiting our website to find out more about General and Community Pediatrics at IUSM.
